FAQ

Frequently asked questions about custom vinyl records

What is a custom vinyl record?

A custom vinyl record is a real, playable disc pressed with audio you choose — your favorite songs, a Spotify playlist, voice messages, wedding vows, or any audio that matters to you. It comes with a photo cover designed around your story. Unlike a regular album, every detail is yours: the songs, the artwork, the message inside. It plays on any standard record player, just like a commercial release.

What types of custom vinyl records does CCS Vintage make?

We currently offer three formats. The Black Vinyl Record with a Photo Cover is our classic option — available in 7", 10", and 12" — with a full custom photo jacket and center labels. The Custom Colored Vinyl Record with a Photo Cover is the same product but with the disc itself in one of 17 colors or a custom HEX code. The Vinyl Record Wedding Guest Book is a playable vinyl where your guests sign the jacket and your songs or their voice messages are pressed inside. More formats are on the way, including splatter, picture disc, and marbled vinyl.

Are custom vinyl records legal?

Yes. CCS Vintage does not reproduce, distribute, or sell copyrighted music. What we do is press the audio you provide onto a physical disc for your personal use — which is a legal personal copy. We don't upload, stream, or broadcast the music. Think of it the same way as burning a CD for yourself from songs you own. We've fulfilled over 8,000 orders since 2021 with songs from all genres and artists. If you have questions about your specific situation, feel free to reach out to Henry directly on WhatsApp.

What's the difference between a black vinyl record and a colored vinyl record?

Both are real, playable vinyl records pressed with your audio. The black vinyl is our classic format — available in 7", 10", and 12" — and it's the most affordable option, starting from $54.97. The colored vinyl is the same product but with the disc itself in a color you choose: 17 catalog options or a custom HEX code to match your occasion, brand, or aesthetic. The colored disc becomes part of the visual design. It starts from $169.97. If the record is a gift that will be displayed as well as played, colored vinyl is the stronger visual statement.

Which custom vinyl record format is right for my occasion?

For anniversaries, birthdays, and most personal gifts, the Black Vinyl Record is the go-to. It's the most complete gift: songs, photos, and a message all in one object. For weddings where you want the disc to be a visual centerpiece — at the reception table or framed afterward — the Colored Vinyl makes more of a statement. For the actual wedding day, the Wedding Guest Book is designed specifically for that event: guests sign the jacket, and your wedding songs or their voice messages are pressed inside. Not sure? Henry can help you decide — reach him on WhatsApp before you order.

How much does it cost to get a custom vinyl record made?

Pricing depends on the format and size. The Black Vinyl Record starts from $54.97 for a 7" and goes up to $79.97 for a 12". The Custom Colored Vinyl Record starts from $169.97. The Wedding Guest Book starts from $39.97 for the cover only, and from $149.97 if you want the record pressed with audio. All prices include free worldwide shipping and a free art proof. There are no hidden fees and no minimum order quantity — you can order just one.

Is it possible to order just one custom vinyl record?

Yes — and that's one of the things that makes us different. Most vinyl manufacturers require a minimum press run of 100 to 500 units. We work with lathe-cut production, which means we can press a single record with the same care and quality you'd expect from a commercial release. Every order, whether it's one disc or fifty, gets the same 1-to-1 attention.

Do custom vinyl records actually sound good?

Yes — with one honest note. Our records are lathe-cut, not factory-pressed like commercial releases. Lathe-cut vinyl sounds warm and real, plays cleanly on any turntable, and reproduces your audio faithfully. You'll notice a slightly different character compared to a commercially pressed album — some describe it as warmer, more analog. What it doesn't have is the clinical precision of a $30/unit factory press run. For the kind of music that goes on these records — songs that meant something, moments you want to keep — the sound matches the emotion perfectly.

Do custom vinyl records play on any standard turntable?

Yes. Every record we make plays on any standard turntable — belt drive, direct drive, entry-level or audiophile. No special equipment needed. All formats — 7", 10", and 12" — play at 33⅓ RPM, just like standard vinyl. If you're not sure which speed to use, it's printed on the center label of the disc.

How is a custom vinyl record different from a regular pressed album?

A regular commercially pressed album is produced in a factory run of hundreds or thousands of copies, pressed from a metal stamper. Our records are lathe-cut — meaning each disc is cut individually by a machine reading your audio directly, one at a time. This is what makes single-copy orders possible. Lathe-cut records have a warm, authentic vinyl sound and are fully playable on any turntable. The main difference is production method, not playability. Both are real records. Ours just happen to have your songs on them.

Can I put my own songs, photos, and voice messages on any of the vinyl record formats?

Yes, across all three formats. You can send a Spotify playlist link, MP3 or WAV files, voice messages from WhatsApp, audio from a video, wedding vows recordings, speeches, or any audio you want preserved. For the cover, you send photos and we design it — or you upload your own artwork. The Wedding Guest Book also supports guest voice messages recorded during the wedding — after the event, you send the audio and we press it. Whatever the moment, there's a way to put it on vinyl.

Are there more custom vinyl record formats coming to CCS Vintage?

Yes. We're working on several new formats: splatter vinyl (with a multi-color paint splatter pattern on the disc), picture disc (with an image printed directly on the vinyl surface), marbled vinyl, and zoetrope vinyl (which creates a moving animation when spinning). We're also developing custom label-only and cover-only options as standalone products. If there's a specific format you're looking for that isn't available yet, reach out — we may be able to accommodate it as a custom order.
