A short intro
I got into vinyl back in 2017 - digging collections in Venezuela, cleaning records, grading them, and selling them on eBay and Discogs. When exporting from Venezuela became too expensive, I made a pivot.
In 2021, I launched an Etsy shop to create your own custom vinyl record for a wedding, anniversary, or a Christmas gift under the name Caracas Vintage. Today, I run my website (ccsvintage.com) dedicated to personalizing several items, including the classic vinyl discs.
Can you make a custom vinyl record with songs? Short answer: Yes! Here’s how it works
You can legally create a personalized vinyl record while you have the rights of use to the files you're using. We create one-off, lathe-cut records using your own audio (vows, voice notes, baby giggles, band demos) and your photos on the sleeve and labels. It’s the most personal way to turn a moment into something you can hear and hold.
Original/rights-owned or royalty-free audio is best. Physical copies of commercial songs usually require licensing, and one-offs are often impractical to license. We’ll guide you on what's safe.
How to make a custom vinyl record? (step-by-step)
Short version: You’ll collect a few photos and your audio in play order, approve a mock-up, and wait for fabrication and shipping. Below is exactly what to do with any maker and what happens when you do it with us.
If you’re buying from any maker
-
Choose your 4 photos.
Pick one for the front cover, one for the back cover, and one label per side (A/B). Use high-resolution JPG/PNG.
Why it matters: Sharper images look better on print and labels. -
Prepare your audio (in play order).
Name your files exactly how you want to hear them: A1, A2… / B1, B2…
WAV is ideal (best quality); MP3 also works. -
Check minutes per side & record size.
As a rule of thumb: 12" ≈ up to ~20 min/side · 10" ≈ ~12 min/side · 7" ≈ ~5 min/side.
Longer sides usually indicate a lower volume; keep the sides balanced for better playback. -
Place your order and follow their upload process.
Every maker has a method for receiving files (via form, email, or a drive link). Send photos + audio + notes (dedication, colors, fonts, exact song order). -
Approve your artwork proof.
Not always, but depending on the manufacturer, you can receive a mock-up. Check names, dates, song order, spelling, bleed/crop, and label sides. Approve only when it’s perfect. -
Production & shipping.
Allow for a few business days for fabrication (note that this may be longer during peak holiday periods). Request a tracking number once your order ships. Makers could take from a few weeks to a few months. Check the turnaround time before placing your order! -
Unboxing & support.
Test the record at 33RPM, which is the standard speed for these discs. If you use a suitcase player, disable auto-stop (quiet or long sides can trigger it early).
If anything feels off, contact support - the vinyl company can fix issues when you report them promptly, but remember that this kind of record could sound a bit lower.
If you order with CCS Vintage
-
Order here → https://ccsvintage.com/products/custom-vinyl-record
We create one-off, lathe-cut records (not mass-pressed), made to order. -
Upload everything in our guided form.
After your purchase, you’ll get an email with a secure upload form to add photos, audio, play order, and notes. Prefer files over playlist links for the smoothest process. -
Mastering + design made easy.
We master your audio for consistent, clear playback.
You can use our free Canva templates to improve curating time (or let us design for you) for the vinyl jacket and stickers. -
Approve your proof - Nothing is made until you say “Yes”.
We only proceed after your explicit approval. This is your keepsake; we want it perfect. -
Fabrication, QA & shipping
Remember, we are not the makers, but we curate your files and make the process smooth for you. So, we coordinate fabrication and quality checks, then ship in the US or overseas.
You’ll receive tracking in ~5–12 business days. In the peak holiday season (mainly Christmas), shipping can take up to 30 days. We’ll keep you posted. -
Aftercare & real support
This is a special gift. If you need help with playback, sleeves, or anything else, email us. Remember that we’re here to make it right.
Good to know
- Legal basics: your own recordings or licensed content are best.
- Playback tip: If a portable suitcase player stops early, turn off auto-stop.
- No “near me” needed: everything’s handled online, and we ship across the U.S. - It's a fast and safe process.

Can I Get a Custom Vinyl Record "Near Me"?
It’s a question we get all the time, and for good reason! When you're looking for a special item, especially something as personal and unique as a custom vinyl record, the first place you think to look is often a local shop. You want to see the product in person, ask questions face-to-face, and feel a connection with the business.
We completely understand that. But when it comes to custom vinyl, searching for "near me" can be a bit tricky.
The Challenge of Finding a Local Custom Vinyl Service
While you might have a fantastic local record store that sells used and new records, it's very rare for them to offer custom vinyl cutting or pressing on-site. The process of making a custom record is highly specialized and requires expensive, complex equipment. These are not services you’ll typically find in a retail storefront.
Instead, custom vinyl is almost always made in dedicated production facilities. These facilities are often industrial and not open to the public for walk-in orders. So, while your intention to find a local expert is great, the reality is that the best place to find one is likely online.
The Unexpected Benefits of Going Digital
This might sound like a limitation, but for you, the customer, it’s actually a huge advantage. By working with an online expert, you get access to a level of quality, variety, and convenience that a single local shop simply can't match.
- Unmatched Expertise: A dedicated online service, like ours, focuses solely on the art and science of personal records. Our team is trained to handle your audio files, understand the nuances of vinyl mastering, and ensure your artwork is flawless.
- Wider Selection: With an online service, you aren't limited to a few in-stock options. You can choose from a full range of sizes (7-inch, 10-inch, 12-inch), colors, and other custom product options that would be impossible for a small local shop to stock.
- Convenience and Transparency: You can create your record from the comfort of your home, with a clear online process that guides you step-by-step. There’s no need to drive around or take time out of your day to find the right store.
The Best Way to Design Your Custom Record
We've worked hard to make the design process simple and fun for everyone. Here are the options we offer:
- Free Canva Templates: To make your design process easy, we provide free access to professional, ready-to-use Canva templates with your purchase. These are perfect if you want to create your own unique design quickly and easily.
- We Can Do It For You: Not a designer? No problem! Just send us your photos or artwork, and we’ll handle the design work for you. We'll make sure everything looks perfect on your record.
Your Best Bet for a "Near Me" Experience is a Human-Centered Service
Even though we're an online business, our approach is all about that personal, "near me" feeling. We believe that the distance between us disappears when the customer service is as close and responsive as if we were your neighbors.
With over 8,000 unique records made and more than 1,700 5-star reviews on Etsy, we have the experience and the trust signals to prove our dedication. When you work with us, you're not just uploading files to a website. You’re working with a team that offers a personal touch, answers your questions, and treats your project with the care it deserves.
And don't worry, we won't produce anything until you're completely happy with the design. We will send you a digital proof for your approval, and all communication is handled promptly via email. You can also reach out to our team at any time through our contact form.
So, while you might not find a custom vinyl record shop on the corner, you can find the next best thing: a trusted team of experts ready to bring your project to life from wherever you are.

A Quick Glossary for Vinyl Enthusiasts
- Lathe-cut: A vinyl record created one-by-one on a specialized cutting machine. Ideal for short runs or single copies.
- Pressed: A mass-produced record made using a metal stamper. The standard method for producing batches of 100 or more.
- Mechanical License: The legal permission to reproduce and distribute a musical composition (the song) on a physical format, like a vinyl record. It is not the same as the rights to a specific sound recording.
- Auto-stop: A feature on some turntables that lifts the arm at the end of the record. We recommend disabling it as it can sometimes stop the record early, especially on longer sides.
- Transparency and Trust: As a company that values reliability, we believe in providing helpful, people-first content. Our articles are written by experts in the field, and we aim to provide accurate and trustworthy information to help you make informed decisions.
